Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL), is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that can be customized to your skin type—for hair removal and photo rejuvenation treating age spots, sun damage, rosacea, facial veins and more. You are just a phone call away from revealing a new you.

What is IPL?

IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a photorejuvenation treatment that reduces sun damage, brown spots, facial telangiectasias, fine lines and wrinkles.* IPL can address numerous skin conditions, without injuring the skin’s surface.* The procedure offers a gentle, long-lasting solution for the visible signs of aging and sun damage without surgery or downtime.

Intense pulsed light, IPL, is a non-invasive technology used to perform various skin treatments including hair removal and photo rejuvenation (photo facial). The technology utilizes a broad spectrum light source as opposed to the single wavelengths produced by lasers. It can be used to treat sun damage, lines and wrinkles, spider veins, freckles, and age spots and for the reduction of unwanted dark hair.

In our Richmond , BC clinics, the procedure of rejuvenating aged skin is referred to as photo rejuvenation and requires a series of IPL treatments.

How does it work?

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colour (chromophores) in the skin. IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colours) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area.

IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The results are not as dramatic as ablative resurfacing where both the dermis and epidermis are injured to produce a much more noticeable overall outcome.

The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – you can often have the procedure done in your lunch break and return to work or activities immediately afterwards
